Sherburne County District Court

The Sherburne County District Court is based at the Sherburne County Government Center in Elk River. It is part of the Tenth Judicial District, which covers eight counties in east-central Minnesota including Anoka, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Pine, Sherburne, Washington, and Wright. The court handles civil, criminal, family, and probate cases. Court administration staff are available Monday through Friday to assist with filings, copy requests, and questions about case records.

Searching Sherburne County Court Docket Records

What Is in a Sherburne County Court Docket

Each Sherburne County court docket contains the case number, party names, case type, and a register of actions. The register of actions is the official, date-ordered record of everything that occurred in the case. Criminal dockets show the charges, arraignment, bail status, pretrial motions, verdict or plea, and sentencing. Access Rules and Legal Basis

Access to Sherburne County court records is governed by the Minnesota Rules of Public Access to Records of the Judicial Branch. Under Minn. Stat. § 13.90, courts are exempt from the Government Data Practices Act and follow their own access rules. Most filed records are presumed public. Exceptions include sealed orders, expunged records, and confidential case types such as juvenile delinquency, civil commitment, and domestic abuse protection orders.

Criminal records can be expunged under Minn. Stat. § 609A in qualifying cases. Once expunged, records are removed from public searches. Treatment and rehabilitation records, psychological evaluations, and family counseling records are private and not available through any public search tool.
