Searching Winona County Court Docket Records
To search Winona County court docket records online, use the MCRO portal at publicaccess.courts.state.mn.us. The system is free and does not require an account. Search by name, case number, or attorney name. Filter results by Winona County to see only local cases. Each result shows the case number, case type, parties, and the register of actions, which is the full history of the case.
MCRO has four main search functions. Case Search is the starting point for most searches. Document Search lets you retrieve PDF documents filed in a specific case by case number. Public documents filed on or after July 1, 2015 are generally available. Hearing Search lets you find scheduled court appearances by party or judge. Judgment Search is used for civil cases and lets you look up money judgments by debtor name in Winona County civil cases.
For records filed before July 1, 2015, document access through MCRO may be limited. The register of actions may still show the case history, but documents may not be available online. Contact the Winona County courthouse at (507) 457-6380 for help accessing older records or documents that do not appear through the online portal.
Note: MCRO wildcard searches use an asterisk. You can type "Win*" to return results for Winona, Winkler, Windsor, and other names starting with those letters. Use this if you are unsure of the full spelling.
Winona County Court Docket Record Types
Every case in the Winona County court docket has a register of actions. This is the case history log. It runs from the date of filing through the final disposition or dismissal, recording every event along the way. In a criminal case, you see the charging document, arraignment, bail, motions, plea, and sentencing. In a civil case, the register tracks the complaint, answers, discovery, hearings, and final judgment. Family court records show petitions, temporary orders, custody arrangements, and any post-judgment modifications.
Winona County is home to a college and a mid-sized city, and the District Court reflects that. Case types cover criminal matters from traffic violations and petty misdemeanors to felony charges, civil disputes including personal injury and contract cases, family law matters including divorce and custody, probate and estate proceedings, and conciliation court for small claims. Each case type has its own code in the MCRO system.
Some Winona County records are not publicly accessible. Juvenile delinquency cases, orders for protection, civil commitment cases, and harassment restraining orders are restricted. These limits apply statewide under the Rules of Public Access to Records of the Judicial Branch. Sealed records and expunged cases also do not appear in public searches.
